Circular saw cutting jig for vinyl siding. It is a series of wedge shaped strips of overlapping wood that shed water very efficiently and can last for a century or more. For bevel siding this is a minimum of 1 inch. The cuts can be done by hand with a set of tin snips but squeezing the snips 5 6 times per cut can get really tiring and leaves a somewhat jagged.

On bevel siding use a furring strip to bring the bottom edge out the proper distance. On rabbeted bevel siding leave a 1 8 inch expansion clearance. They have less tendency to warp and swell. Each succeeding course overlaps the one below.

Hardieplank is a fiber cement siding product. Make sure the first course is level. A jig that holds the current plank so it correctly overlaps the previous plank makes installation easier and faster. The first plank is installed at the bottom of the wall and subsequent planks overlap the previous plank by a minimum of 1 1 4 inches.
